Lauriane Yougang

Lauriane Yougang

"Born in 1994 in Douala, Lauriane has been passionate about art since a young age. During her primary school career, she gradually developed drawing skills by reproducing various images of comic book characters. in 2011, When Yougang obtained her Professional Aptitude Certificate in secretarial and office automation, she decided to follow training in visual arts. Lauriane moved to Mbalmayo and enrolled at the IFA where she learned painting and sculpture. She received a baccalaureate in ceramics and enrolled at the University of Yaoundé where she a degree in plastic arts and art history. In 2023, Lauriane won the call for residency from the Free Academy of Fine Arts in Douala. The same year she was awarded the Goethe Prize discovery. She holds a master’s degree in visual arts from the University of Yaoundé 1 under the direction of Dr Paul Henri Souvenir Asako.

Lauriane has developed an artistic approach she calls “the fullness of infinity”. It is a perception of the universe as a set of different elements that come together to form a whole endowed with life. Being part of this whole, Lauriane projects herself into this space to find a place as a creative woman. Her approach aims to continually question the essence of things and give life to new things through representations of images made up of circles and lines. The circle represents the most complete graphic symbol in the world. It alone is the beginning and the end. It is also the symbol of life and therefore linked to women. Lauriane’s approach reflects patience, endurance, and perseverance. These qualities have accompanied her life’s journey thanks to the tenacity of her mother.

Lauriane explores different themes related to human beings and mainly women. Through representations of scenes of daily life and portraits, Yougang expresses her sensitivity on subjects linked to tolerance, alterability, matter, energy, sharing, transactional analysis and ecstasy.

Lauriane’s sources of inspiration are her own photographs and those of various characters taken from magazines. She also draws inspiration from all the elements of her environment, from the complex world of women, and travel.

Lauriane’s art acts as a voice that tells her story in subtle ways: her frustrations, her desires, her joys."
